State playoff draws have been announced for both the Federal Way High School boys soccer and baseball teams along with the draws for Decatur and Thomas Jefferson at the District 3/4 fastpitch softball tournaments.
Federal Way comes into the Class 4A boys soccer playoffs as the state's No. 16 seed and as such must open on the road at the No. 1 seed.
Thus the Eagles drew top ranked Newport of the Bellevue area for a 7 p.m. Tuesday opening round match there.
The good news is that if Federal Way can get past that game it will host a state quarterfinal the next Friday or Saturday.
For baseball Federal Way will return to the same field it just played its district final this past Saturday, which is Heritage Park next to Rogers High School on Puyallup's South Hill.
The Eagles drew Jackson of Everett for a 10 a.m. Saturday state regional opener.
Federal Way must win twice that day to become the regional champion and advance to the state final four in Everett the following weekend.
A win over Jackson would advance the Eagles into an approximately 4 p.m. regional championship against the winner of Saturday's 1 p.m. game between Hanford and Puyallup.
Thomas Jefferson, meanwhile, is playing in the Class 3A District 3/4 fastpitch softball tournament that opens Thursday at the Regional Athletic Complex in Lacey.
The Raiders will be pitted against the Gig Harbor Tides in a 10 a.m. game to open.
Decatur will take part in the Class 4A version of the District 3/4 tournament at the Kent Service Fields starting Friday.
The Gators open against the Sumner Spartans at 3 p.m.
Both fastpitch tournaments conclude with a second day of competition Saturday.
