Soundview takes state title

Look out San Bernardino, here we come.

Soundview Little League of Northeast and other parts of Tacoma is bound for the Southern California city east of Los Angeles after posting a 4-1 victory over Gig Harbor in the Washington state if-necessary second final Sunday morning.

The win at the Walla Walla Little League complex sends Soundview south to the West Region tournament for Majors all-star baseball players ages 10-12.

The action runs Aug. 9-14 with the champion there going on to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Penn.

Soundview went to Walla Walla as the District 10 champions.

It opened state with a 5-1 win over West Seattle on Saturday, July 18 before taking a 3-0 loss to Gig Harbor two days later.

Soundview bounced back to beat Kirkland American, 9-0, in a loser's bracket game this past Wednesday and an 11-0 victory over Lake Stevens on Thursday.

That advanced the team to Friday's loser's bracket final against Richland, which it won, 5-2, to earn a Saturday morning rematch with Gig Harbor in the provisional championship.

Soundview took that game, 5-0, to force Sunday's second championship.

Soundview plays for it all

Everything goes on the line Sunday for the Soundview of Northeast Tacoma and the Gig Harbor Little League baseball teams.

Soundview shut out previously undefeated Gig Harbor by a 5-0 score in the state Majors age 10-12 all-star provisional final Saturday morning and the two teams will meet again in the if-necessary second final at 9 a.m. Sunday in Walla Walla.

To the winner goes the state championship and the trip south to San Bernardino that goes with it to play in the West Region tournament for a berth in the Little League World Series.

The loser is the state's second place finisher.

Soundview makes championship

Soundview Little League of Northeast Tacoma is set to play for the state Majors age 10-12 all-star baseball championship after rallying for a 5-2 victory over Richland on Friday.

Soundview rides the win in the loser's bracket final into a 9 a.m. Saturday provisional championship game against undefeated Gig Harbor at the Walla Walla Little League complex.

A win there would force a second if-necessary final at 9 a.m. Sunday with the winner taking the state title and earning a trip to San Bernardino, California for West Region action.

The West Region champion goes on to the Little League World Series in Pennsylvania.

Soundview blanks Lake Stevens

Soundview of Northeast Tacoma pulled within one win of getting to play for the state Little League Majors age 10-12 all-star baseball championship after shutting out Lake Stevens by an 11-0 score Thursday.

The win in Walla Walla advanced the team into the 6 p.m. Friday loser's bracket final where it will battle Richland.

Friday's winner advances to play Gig Harbor in the provisional championship scheduled for 9 a.m. Saturday and would need to win that game and another at 9 a.m. Sunday to take the title.

The champion would advance to upcoming regional action in San Bernardino, California.

Friday's loser comes in third in the state.

Soundview Majors advance

Soundview Little League of Northeast Tacoma is set to play Lake Stevens in a 6 p.m. Thursday loser's bracket game at the Majors age 10-12 all-star baseball tournament in Walla Walla.

The winner advances to play Richland in the loser's bracket final at 6 p.m. Friday with the winner of that game taking on Gig Harbor for the title needing to win twice.

Gig Harbor shuts out Soundview

Gig Harbor shut out Soundview of Northeast Tacoma by a 3-0 score in a Monday winner's bracket game at the state Major age 10-12 Little League all-star baseball tournament.

Soundview is still alive in the loser's bracket of the action in Walla Walla, however, playing Montesano or Kirkland American with the season on the line at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Soundview, which came in as the District 10 champion, opened with a 5-1 win over West Seattle in a Sunday morning second round game.

Soundview wins Majors opener

Soundview of Northeast Tacoma opened in the second round of the state Majors age 10-12 all-star baseball tournament Sunday, scoring a 5-1 victory over West Seattle.

The team stays in Walla Walla for its second day of action Monday, taking on Gig Harbor in a noon game.

The eventual state champion advances to Western Regional play in San Bernardino to play for a berth into the Little League World Series in Pennsylvania.

Soundview comes up short

Soundview Little League of Northeast Tacoma came up one run short against Bellevue National in Saturday morning state age 9-11 all-star baseball championship play.

Bellevue National won the action at the Lynndale field in Lynnwood by a 6-5 score.

The games are six innings long at that level of play.

Soundview won its first three games at state.  It defeated Ridgefield by a 5-1 score in its opener Saturday, July 11 and blasted Anacortes the next day, 12-1.

The team took on Gig Harbor in a winner's bracket semifinal Tuesday and won, 16-0, but lost to Bellevue National in a 3-0 winner's bracket final Thursday.

Soundview bounced back to top West Seattle, 5-2, in Friday's loser's bracket final.

Soundview entered the tournament as the District 10 champions.

Bellevue National blanks Soundview

Bellevue National blanked Soundview of Northeast Tacoma by a 3-0 score Thursday in the winner's bracket final of the state age 9-11 Little League Baseball all-star tournament.

Soundview must return to the Lynndale field in Lynnwood to play a hot West Seattle team in the 6 p.m. Friday loser's bracket final.

The winner plays Bellevue National at 11 a.m. Saturday needing to win twice to take the state championship.

West Seattle has fought all the way back through the loser's bracket after losing its state opener last Saturday while Soundview won its first three state games to get to Thursday's action.

Soundview wins again

Soundview of Northeast Tacoma trounced Gig Harbor by a 16-0 score in a winner's bracket semifinal at the state age 9-11 Little League Baseball all-star tournament Tuesday.

The win in Mukilteo propelled Soundview on to a 6:30 p.m. Thursday winner's bracket final pairing with Bellevue National over on the Lynndale field in Lynnwood.

Thursday's winner makes the championship and would need to be defeated twice to be unseated.

The loser would need to win the loser's bracket final Friday to make the championship.

Soundview takes first two

Soundview Little League of Northeast Tacoma has gotten off to a hot start at the state age 9-11 all-star baseball tournament, winning its first two games.

The District 10 championship team opened the action on the Lynndale field in Lynnwood with a 5-1 Saturday victory over District 6 champion Ridgefield and followed that up with a 12-1 Sunday win over District 1 champion Anacortes.

Soundview travels to nearby Mukilteo to play District 2 champion Gig Harbor in a 4 p.m. Tuesday winner's bracket semifinal with the winner advancing to the 6:30 p.m. Thursday winner's bracket final.

Championship play takes place Saturday.

Soundview teams fall short

Both the Soundview age 8-10 all-star Little League baseball and softball teams saw their seasons end just shy of District 10 championship play with losses Wednesday.

The softball team from Northeast Tacoma was outscored by Bonney Lake/Sumner, 8-6, and the baseball team fell to South Hill of Puyallup, 12-8.

South Hill edged the softball team, 14-13, in Sunday's opener played at the Real Life Church field in Covington but Soundview came back to beat Kent by an 11-1 score Monday and to edge past Chinook of Enumclaw, 2-1, Tuesday.

Bonney Lake/Sumner defeated the baseball team, 6-3, in Saturday's opener and Soundview rebounded for a 14-7 victory over tournament host Federal Way National on Monday.

Soundview defeated Kent in Tuesday action, 6-0.

Federal Way National fell to South Hill by an 8-6 score in its opener Sunday.

Steel Lake of the east side of the Federal Way area was blanked, 10-0, by South Hill in its opener Saturday before being topped Sunday by Auburn, 8-5.

In softball the combined Federal Way National and Steel Lake team took a 22-7 opening loss Saturday against Bonney Lake/Sumner and a 24-9 loss Sunday to Kent.

The District 10 tournaments are now completed, but Soundview advances to the state age 9-11 baseball tournament opening Saturday, July 11 in Lynnwood and to the Majors age 10-12 tournament opening Saturday, July 18 in Walla Walla.

Soundview takes Majors crown

Soundview Little League blasted its way through the District 10 Major baseball all-star tournament for ages 10-12 with four decisive wins this week.

The team from Northeast Tacoma wrapped up the championship Saturday with a 12-0 victory over South Hill of Puyallup at the Federal Way National complex.

Soundview opened the tournament with a 10-0 win over Auburn this past Monday and breezed by Chinook of Enumclaw, 10-1, the next day.

That sent the team on to a winner's bracket final game Thursday against South Hill that it won by a 10-0 score to advance directly into the championship game.

Federal Way National took a 12-3 loss to Chinook in its Monday opener before being eliminated by Auburn the next night, 10-0.

As the District 10 champions Soundview advances to the state tournament that opens Saturday, July 18 at Veteran's Fields in Walla Walla.

The state champion reaches the San Bernardino regional tournament in California with the regional champion going on to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Penn.

Soundview also played South Hill for the Junior age 13 championship at Pete's Pool in Enumclaw and took an 11-10 loss in Friday's provisional final and also lost Saturday's if-necessary game, 16-11, to finish second.

Soundview opened with a 13-3 victory over Steel Lake last Monday and posted a 26-15 win Wednesday over Bonney Lake/Sumner in the winner's bracket final.

South Hill started its trek back through the loser's bracket with a 17-2 elimination of Steel Lake on Tuesday.

The District 10 age 9-11 softball tournament played at Sunset Park in Auburn was only composed of South Hill and Soundview with South Hill winning both games that were played.

The Puyallup team prevailed by a 15-0 score in Monday's opener and also took Tuesday's provisional championship, 13-3.

Brian Hinchy passes away

One time Federal Way High School baseball and football standout Brian Hinchy recently passed away, it was announced by his sister Stephanie Hinchy-Stamper on his Facebook account.

In baseball he was mostly known for his power hitting ability for the Eagles in the spring and for the Federal Way American Legion team in the summer.

But it was his ability to throw the baseball fast in occasional right-handed relief pitching performances that earned him a brief professional career in the minor league system of the Arizona Diamondbacks.

"We will take comfort knowing he is no longer in pain," wrote Hinchy-Stamper.  "All I can picture right now is all the laughter going on up there in Heaven."

"He was always so nice to me," wrote his Federal Way baseball coach, Eric Fiedler.  "I have never and will never forget him."

Former Eagles football coach Tom McConnaughey also responded in writing.

"Enjoyed coaching him and being part of his journey," he said.

Soundview captures title

Soundview Little League of Northeast Tacoma captured the all-star baseball District 10 championship for ages 9-11 with a 4-3 Saturday morning victory over South Hill of Puyallup.

The win capped off an undefeated run through the tournament played at the Federal Way National complex.

Soundview opened with a 10-0 decision Tuesday over South Hill and followed that up with a 3-2 win over Bonney Lake/Sumner in Thursday's winner's bracket final to reach Saturday's championship.

Federal Way National opened with a 10-0 win Monday over Steel Lake but lost by the same score to Bonney Lake/Sumner the next day and bowed out with a 12-6 loss to Auburn on Wednesday.

Steel Lake's stay ended with a 19-2 Tuesday loss to Chinook.

As the District 10 champion Soundview advances to the state tournament at Lynndale Park in Lynnwood that opens Saturday, July 11.

Soundview also reached the winner's bracket final in the softball age 10-12 District 10 Majors tournament at Sunset Park in Auburn but lost the Thursday game, 14-0, to Bonney Lake/Sumner and lost Friday's loser's bracket final to South Hill, 15-0.

Soundview opened with a 13-3 drubbing of Chinook on Monday and a 24-9 Tuesday victory over Auburn.

National fell to South Hill, 15-0, in its opener Monday and bounced back for a 22-12 win over Auburn on Wednesday before losing, 16-0, in a Thursday rematch against South Hill.

Teams are trying to reach Saturday championship play scheduled at 9 a.m. with the if-neccessary game at noon.

National also hosts the Majors age 10-11-12 and Juniors tournaments that start with 6 p.m. Monday games.

Championship action starts at noon Saturday with if-necessary play at 3 p.m.

Sunset Park is also the site of the age 9-10-11 tournament that opens at 6 p.m. Monday with Soundview meeting South Hill.

That is a two-team tournament with a 6 p.m. Tuesday championship and 6 p.m. Wednesday if-necessary game.
