A strong contingent of jumpers led the way as Federal Way captured the state Class 4A boys track and field team title this past weekend.
The Eagles scored 79.50 points to pass up the 63 of Lake Stevens, avenging last year's second place finish behind the Vikings. A total of 60.50 of those points came in jumping events.
Jaylon Jenkins started Federal Way off Thursday by winning the boys high jump at 6 feet, 8 inches with teammate Julian Gene Fortin tying for third at 6-02.
Roman Hutchinson followed up by taking the triple jump title at 47-07.25 with Jenkins second at 47-02.00 and Fortin third at 45-10.50.
Hutchinson won the long jump crown at 23-09.00 as well with teammate Andre Jordan taking third at 23-02.00 and Jenkins fourth at 22-05.50.
Jordan also captured third in the 100-meter dash finals Saturday with a time of 11.05 seconds and fifth place in the 200 in 22.43.
Federal Way added a third place finish in the boys 4X100 relay with a 42.33 effort.
Alex Thach of the Eagles snagged seventh in the boys 800-meter run with a 2:05.02 clocking.
Sam Wah was eighth for Federal Way in the boys 110-meter high hurdles with a 15.46 effort to score one team point.
In other area boys finishes, Jahlil Loyd of Todd Beamer captured third place in the 3A boys high jump at 6-04.00 and Paris Saunders of Thomas Jefferson took eighth in the 3A boys triple jump at 44-00.00.
Both the 4A and 3A championships took place Thursday through Saturday at Mount Tahoma High School in Tacoma along with the 2A.
