Boys basketball

Tahoma 67, Federal Way 66

One measley point was all that separated Federal Way from Tahoma of Maple Valley in a Class 4A District 3/4 semifinal Thursday.

The Eagles were hoping to beat the Bears after the teams split two games during the regular season and tied for first place in the North Puget Sound League.

Tahoma took the No. 1 seed to districts and the Eagles landed the No. 2 seed, but Thursday's game was predetermined to be played on the Federal Way floor no matter who was in it.

A win would have advanced the Eagles to Saturday's tournament championship, but instead they will play a 2:45 p.m. game at Mount Tahoma High School in Tacoma against Olympia for third and fourth place.

Both teams advance to next week's state regional playoffs.

Olympia is coming off a semifinal loss to Kentwood.

Auburn 67, Todd Beamer 47

To play or not to play.

That is the question for Todd Beamer and next opponent Kelso after both teams fell into the third place game of the Class 3A District 3/4 tournament with losses Thursday.

The 11:15 a.m. game is optional since both teams advance to state regionals.

Kelso may not want to make the trip to Mount Tahoma High School in Tacoma.

A Washington State Interscholastic Activities seeding committee will decide regional pairings either way.
