Gonzaga Prep beats Eagles

By Tim Clinton

A long trip across the state did not pay for the Federal Way boys basketball team Friday.

The Eagles journeyed to Central Valley of Spokane, only to take a 62-40 state tournament loss to Gonzaga Prep.

Federal Way entered as the No. 6 seeded Class 4A team in the state while Gonzaga Prep was seeded No. 3.

The Eagles still advance to play in the Tacoma Dome, but must play a loser-out game at 3:45 p.m. Wednesday instead of being placed directly into a Thursday state quarterfinal.

If they win Wednesday against Woodinville or Skyview, they will play No. 5 Davis in a 3:45 p.m. quarterfinal Thursday.
