Sekou Bangoura of Todd Beamer secured a second place finish to highlight the Federal Way School District efforts at this past weekend's Mat Classic state wrestling tournament.
Bangoura got through the preliminary rounds of the Class 3A 190-pound action at the Tacoma Dome unscathed before taking a narrow 6-4 defeat in the championship match.
Nehemiah Washington of Decatur led the Class 4A local contingent, taking third place at 215 pounds.
Washington won his final match by fall with 2 minutes, 43 seconds elapsed.
Ruben Ruiz of Federal Way snagged sixth place in Class 4A 113-pound action, taking a loss by fall with 4:15 elapsed in the fifth place match.
Three area athletes snatched up seventh place awards.
Decatur's Anthony Zanders competed at 144 pounds in 4A and won the seventh place match by fall in 4:00.
Caleb Clemons of Todd Beamer captured seventh by a 2-0 score at 106 pounds in 3A action.
Taking the seventh place match in the 130-pound class in girls 3A/4A action was Federal Way's Marina Velasco-Bono with a fall in 34 seconds.
David Abramyan of Decatur delivered an eighth place finish in boys 4A 150-pound action. He was edged in the seventh place match, 3-2.
Mat Classic opened Friday and ran through the Saturday evening championship rounds.
