Football wrap

Football

Decatur 16, Federal Way 14

Decatur nailed down the No. 2 spot in the North Puget Sound League Class 4A division with Thursday's narrow victory over the Eagles.

The Gators finished with a 5-1 division record behind only the 6-0 mark of Kennedy Catholic.

They carry a 8-1 overall record into postseason play next week along with Kennedy Catholic.

Federal Way would up at 3-3 in division action and is 3-6 overall.

Decatur hosts Woodinville for a 7 p.m. Friday playoff game while Federal Way must go on the road to Camas for a playoff at the same time.

TJ 21, Todd Beamer 16

Thomas Jefferson won Friday's battle for bragging rights on the east side of Federal Way.

The Raiders ended up 2-5 in NPSL Class 3A action and are 2-7 overall going into a 7 p.m. Friday non-league game against Lakeside of Seattle at Ingraham.

The Titans dropped to 3-4, 3-6.

Volleyball

Todd Beamer hosts Auburn at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday as Thomas Jefferson travels to Kent-Meridian and Decatur to Mount Rainier.

Seattle entertains the Cleveland Browns in a 1:05 p.m. Sunday game at Lumen Field that can be seen on channel 13.

Seattle plays its first of a three match postseason series against Dallas Monday, with the action at Lumen Field getting underway at 6 p.m.

Decatur improved its record to an impressive 7-1 mark overall with its Saturday afternoon victory over the Royals at French Field in Kent.

The Gators remain at 4-1 in North Puget Sound League Class 4A Division action behind the 5-0, 7-1 mark of Kennedy Catholic.

Decatur wraps up division play with a 6 p.m. Thursday visit to Federal Way.

Federal Way 42, Kentwood 27

The Eagles soared out to 3-2 in NPSL 4A action with Friday's win over Kentwood at French Field.

They trail Kennedy Catholic, Decatur and Tahoma (4-2) in the division.

Federal Way carries a 3-4 overall record into Thursday's action against Decatur.

TJ 21, Kentlake 0

Thomas Jefferson is winless no more.

The Raiders shut down the Falcons Friday at Federal Way Memorial, improving to 1-5 in NPSL 3A division action and to 1-7 overall.

They host Todd Beamer at 7 p.m. Friday at Federal Way Memorial.

Auburn outgunned the Titans in a high-scoring affair at Federal Way Memorial on Thursday.

Federal Way Keeping Track

Tuputala comes through

Federal Way High School graduate Alphonzo Tuputala came through in a big way for the University of Washington football team in its thrilling 36-33 win over Oregon Saturday.

The senior linebacker racked up eight tackles and one assisted tackle for the undefeated Huskies.

Locke stands out at WWU

Todd Beamer graduate Brandon Locke is a co-captain for the Western Washington University men's soccer team as a senior goalkeeper.

The 6-foot, 3-inch Locke has started all 11 games for the Vikings of Bellingham, amassing 28 saves.

Locke has a total of 126 saves to show for his career.  He also has one career scoring assist that came last year.

Junk shuts down Cubs

Decatur graduate Janson Junk of the Milwaukee Brewers shut out the Chicago Cubs over 2.2 innings in his team's regular season-ending 4-0 win Sunday, Oct. 1.

Junk finished the Major League portion of his year with an 0-1 record and 4.91 earned run average in 7.2 innings over two games.

He struck out five, including three in the finale, when he walked none.

Brigham finishes 1-3

Thomas Jefferson graduate Jeff Brigham posted a 1-3, 5.26 record this year as a reliever for the New York Mets.

Brigham worked 37.2 innings over 37 appearances.

Still scores pair of goals

Thomas Jefferson graduate Hailey Still has scored two goals and one assist for the University of Washington women's soccer team this fall.

The 5-4 senior forward has played in all 14 games for the Huskies, starting in the last two.

The Gators turned back the Conquerors in Saturday action at Auburn Memorial to run their North Puget Sound League Class 4A Division record to 4-1 and their overall mark to 6-1.

Decatur gets a break from division play this coming Saturday, visiting 3A Kent-Meridian at 1 p.m.

Federal Way 49, Mt. Rainier 27

Federal Way flew past the Rams this past Thursday, improving to 2-5 overall and 2-2 in NPSL 4A play with the home win at Auburn Memorial.

The Eagles journey to French Field in Kent to battle Kentwood at 7 p.m. Friday.

Auburn Mountainview 15, Todd Beamer 12

The Titans stand at 3-2 in the NPSL 3A Division and 3-4 overall following Friday's road loss to Auburn Mountainview.

They are scheduled to be the first Federal Way football team to test the new turf at Federal Way Memorial when they host Auburn at 7 p.m. Thursday.

The first varsity event there is Wednesday, when Todd Beamer hosts Thomas Jefferson for a 6 p.m. girls soccer match.

No, Federal Way Memorial will not be ready to reopen for football this week as originally scheduled.

Two home games have been switched to Auburn Memorial as a result.

Federal Way will be there Thursday hosting Mount Rainier of Des Moines for a 6 p.m. game.

Decatur's home game against Kentwood has been changed to 1 p.m. Saturday at Auburn Memorial.

Todd Beamer and Thomas Jefferson are both on the road and playing at 7 p.m. Friday as scheduled.

Todd Beamer happens to be going to Auburn Memorial to take on Auburn Mountainview.

TJ goes to French Field in Kent to battle Kent-Meridian.

Decatur 41, Mount Rainier 7

Decatur's Gators have gotten back to their winning ways, topping Mount Rainier for their second win in a row since taking their lone loss of the season by a 30-6 score to Kennedy Catholic Sept. 23.

Decatur won three in a row to get out of the gate fast prior to the loss to the Lancers and now boasts a 5-1 overall record.

The Gators now stand at 3-1 in North Puget Sound League Class 4A Division play for second place behind Kennedy Catholic following Friday's victory.

They host Kentwood for a 1 p.m. Saturday game at Auburn Memorial.

Auburn-Riverside 54, Todd Beamer 14

Todd Beamer is undefeated in NPSL Class 3A action no more following Friday's loss to the Ravens.

The Titans return to Auburn Memorial to take on Auburn Mountainview at 7 p.m. this coming Friday.

Tahoma 42, Federal Way 20

The Eagles were downed by the Bears of Maple Valley on Friday.

They return to action Thursday, hosting Mount Rainier for a 6 p.m. game at Auburn Memorial.

Highline Memorial did not prove to be a good home away from home for the Raiders on Saturday as they took a decisive defeat at the hands of the Kingco 2A leading Pirates (5-1).

The Federal Way All-City meet involving all four local schools takes place at Thomas Jefferson's course next Wednesday.

Football

Todd Beamer 40, Kentridge 0

Todd Beamer's Titans have really turned things around.

After going 0-2 in non-league play to start the season the Titans have won three straight games including two in North Puget Sound League Class 3A Division action to stand at 2-0 in division play and 3-2 overall.

They downed Kent-Meridian by a 20-7 score Sept. 15 and Kentlake by a 25-0 margin Sept. 22 ahead of Saturday's rout of the Chargers.  Kentridge is an NPSL 4A foe but the other two were Class 3A opponents.

All of the victories were posted at French Field in Kent.

The Titans hope the winning trend continues when they visit Auburn-Riverside for a 4 p.m. Friday game at Auburn Memorial Stadium.

Decatur 33, Tahoma 30

The Gators edged the Bears by a field goal in Maple Valley last Friday, improving to 2-1 in NPSL Class 4A play and to 4-1 overall.

Decatur visits Mount Rainier for a 7 p.m. game at Highline Memorial this Friday in another division game.

The Gators' lone loss was to first place Kennedy Catholic (3-0, 4-1).

Kennedy Catholic 46, Federal Way 26

Federal Way fell to 1-1 in NPSL Class 4A action and to 1-4 overall with Saturday's loss to the Lancers at Highline Memorial in Burien.

The Eagles travel to Maple Valley to face Tahoma at 7 p.m. Friday before reopening Federal Way Memorial Field with a 6 p.m. home game against Mount Rainier on Thursday, Oct. 12.

Auburn 47, TJ 14

Thomas Jefferson stands at 0-3 in NPSL Class 3A contests and at 0-5 overall including last Thursday's defeat at Auburn Memorial.

The Raiders take a break from league play this weekend, visiting Highline for a game at noon Saturday at Highline Memorial.

It won't be an easy break, however, as the Pirates are on top of the Kingco 2A standings at 3-0 and are 4-1 overall with the only loss being to Kennedy Catholic by a 45-38 margin Sept. 9.
