No, Federal Way Memorial Field will not be ready to open when the local high school football season kicks off Thursday, Aug. 31 and Friday, Sept. 1.
The construction project will continue deep into the schedule, with the first game there set to feature Federal Way High School at home against Mount Rainier of Des Moines at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 12.
In the meantime, Federal Way, Thomas Jefferson, Decatur and Todd Beamer will be playing most of their games on the road, with the only "home" action at Auburn Memorial.
On the road is where all four teams will be for their openers in three weeks.
Decatur will be the first team to plunge into the new season and will also be the closest to home.
The Gators are scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 31 action against Kentlake at French Field next to Kent-Meridian.
Two of the schools will open the next day on the east side of Lake Washington, with Federal Way dropping in on Eastlake and Todd Beamer on Interlake at 7 p.m.
Thomas Jefferson, meanwhile, will head south at the same time, paying a visit to Capital of Olympia.
TJ hosts Decatur for a crosstown battle at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9 only at Auburn Memorial as Federal Way travels all the way to West Valley of Yakima.
Todd Beamer goes to the Vancouver area to face Battle Ground at noon that day.
North Puget Sound League games begin the following week for some, with TJ dropping in on Auburn-Riverside at Auburn Memorial and Decatur on Kentridge at French Field at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 14.
Todd Beamer plays at Kent-Meridian with a 4 p.m. start the next day and at 1 p.m. Saturday the Eagles of Federal Way entertain Lake Stevens for a non-league tilt at Auburn Memorial. Lake Stevens won the state 4A title last year in a tough game against Kennedy Catholic.
French Field hosts a Federal Way doubleheader Friday, Sept. 22 with Todd Beamer visiting Kentlake at 4 p.m. and Federal Way visiting Kentridge at 7:30 p.m.
TJ goes to Auburn Memorial to battle Auburn Mountainview at 7:30 p.m. that day with Decatur traveling to Highline Memorial to face Kennedy Catholic at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 23.
The TJ Raiders travel to Auburn for 6 p.m. action Thursday, Sept. 28 and Decatur visits Tahoma in Maple Valley at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 29.
At 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30 it will be Federal Way visiting Kennedy Catholic and Todd Beamer going to French Field to face Kentridge.
Todd Beamer is at Auburn Memorial playing Auburn-Riverside at 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 6 with Decatur going to Highline Memorial to take on Mount Rainier and Federal Way to Tahoma at 7 p.m.
TJ visits the Highline Pirates at noon the next day.
The day after Federal Way is scheduled to play its real home opener Thursday, Oct. 12 at Federal Way Memorial it will be Todd Beamer at Auburn against Auburn Mountainview and TJ at Kent-Meridian at 7 p.m.
Decatur plays Kentwood at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14 at French Field.
Todd Beamer hosts Auburn at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 19 at Federal Way Memorial with Federal Way going to French Field to play Kentwood at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 20. Decatur travels to Kent-Meridian at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 21 and TJ takes the same field to face Kentlake at 3 p.m.
Federal Way Memorial will be the site of two crosstown games the following week.
Decatur visits Federal Way at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 26 and Todd Beamer is at TJ for 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 27 action.
All four teams will see action the following week, either in a playoff or non-league crossover depending on their regular season finish.
Decatur and Federal Way play at the 4A level in the NPSL while TJ and Todd Beamer are 3A NPSL teams.
