A Look Ahead

Mariners

Seattle hosts the Texas Rangers for the final four games of the regular season this week as it battles for a postseason berth.

The action at T-Mobile Park starts with a 6:40 p.m. Thursday game, followed by a 7:10 p.m. Friday game and a 4:15 p.m. Saturday contest. Sunday's regular season finale starts at 12:10 p.m.

Saturday's game can be seen on Channel 13 and the rest on ROOT Sports Northwest.

Seahawks

Seattle makes an appearance on Monday Night Football for its next game, paying a 5:15 p.m. visit to the New York Giants.

Channel 4 and ESPN will broadcast the action live.

Sounders

Seattle drops in on Nashville for 5:30 p.m. Saturday action before coming home to Lumen Field to take on the Los Angeles Galaxy at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Both matches will be carried on Apple TV+.

Kraken

Seattle's hockey team opens preseason play by hosting Vancouver at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Climate Pledge Arena ahead of a 7 p.m. Monday home game against Edmonton.

Thursday's game is on KONG TV and Monday's on ROOT Sports Northwest.

The women's soccer squad entertains North Carolina at 5 p.m. Sunday at Lumen Field in a match shown on Fox 13+.

Federal Way broke into the win column in a big way Friday, burying the Chargers in a game played at French Field in Kent.

The Eagles (1-1, 1-3) visit Kennedy Catholic (2-0, 3-1) at 1 p.m. next Saturday at Highline Memorial.

Todd Beamer 25, Kentlake 0

Todd Beamer now stands at 2-0 in North Puget Sound League Class 3A division action after Friday's win over the Falcons and improved to 2-2 overall.

The Titans visit Kentridge at 1 p.m. Saturday at French Field.

Kennedy Catholic 30, Decatur 6

Decatur tasted defeat for the first time this season, falling to last year's state Class 4A second place finishers in a Saturday afternoon affair at Highline Memorial.

The Gators fell to 1-1 in NPSL Class 4A play and to 3-1 overall.

Tuputala making plays for UW

Federal Way graduate AlphonzoTuputala is racking up some positive early season defensive statistics for the University of Washington football team as a linebacker.

After opening with one tackle and two assists in a 56-19 win over Boise State on Saturday, Sept. 2 he came through with one tackle and three assists in a 41-7 victory over Michigan State Saturday, Sept. 9.

Tuputala exploded for three tackles and two assists as the Huskies dealt Tulsa a 43-10 defeat this past Saturday.

Brigham sticks with Mets

Thomas Jefferson graduate Jeff Brigham is still in the bullpen late in the season for the New York Mets, posting a 1-2 record with a 5.25 earned run average for the overall season in 36 innings over 36 appearances.

Junk now 7-10 for Sounds

Decatur graduate Janson Junk now has a 7-10, 4.20 record for the Class AAA Nashville Sounds of the Milwaukee Brewers organization, striking out 92 opponents in 137 innings pitched.

Still scores goal for Huskies

Thomas Jefferson's Hailey Still has connected for one goal so far for the University of Washington women's soccer team.

Still is a senior forward.

Locke records pair of shutouts

Todd Beamer graduate Brandon Locke has earned two shutouts as the starting goalie for the Western Washington University men's soccer team.

Locke, a senior, has recorded 15 saves for the Vikings of Bellingham.

Federal Way graduate Rachel Kimura is a redshirt junior forward for the St. Martin's University women's soccer team in Lacey but is currently sidelined by an injury.

Seattle is in a three-way tangle at the top of the American League West and will be playing only the other two teams involved over its last 10 games.

The Mariners go to Texas this weekend, taking on the Rangers at 5:05 p.m. Friday, 4:05 p.m. Saturday and 11:35 a.m. Sunday.

Seattle comes home to play the Houston Astros for three games after that, with the action starting at 6:40 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at T-Mobile Park.

Texas comes to town next Thursday at 6:40 p.m. to start a four game stay.

Gator gridders improve to 3-0

Decatur decimated Kentridge by a 60-14 score at French Field Thursday evening, running its overall record to 3-0 for the young football season.

The Gators are now 1-0 in North Puget Sound League Class 4A Division play.

Their previous two wins were against Class 3A NPSL teams.  They beat Kentlake by a 48-7 margin Thursday, Aug. 31 and shut out Thomas Jefferson, 46-0, Saturday, Sept. 9.

Decatur's probable biggest test of the year awaits Saturday, Sept. 23 when it pays a 1 p.m. visit to Kennedy Catholic at Highline Memorial Stadium in Burien.

The Lancers are 1-1 going into a home game against Kentwood this Saturday, but were last year's state Class 4A runner up behind Lake Stevens.

Kennedy Catholic outlasted Highline in its second game, 45-38, after dropping its opener to Regis Jesuit of Colorado, 36-33.

Federal Way Keeping Track

Brigham back with Mets

Thomas Jefferson graduate Jeff Brigham has been brought back up from AAA Syracuse by the New York Mets and held Texas to one hit in two innings Wednesday, Aug. 30.

Brigham lowered his earned run average to 4.83 including an early season stint with the Mets and he has a 1-2 record.

Brigham is a right-handed reliever.

Junk 6-9 for Nashville

Decatur graduate Janson Junk now has a 6-9 record and a 4.41 ERA as a starting pitcher for the Nashville Sounds, who are the AAA affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers.

Junk has thrown 120.1 innings for the team with 83 strikeouts.

Tuputala helps Huskies win

Federal Way graduate Alphonzo Tuputala came through with one tackle and two assists for the University of Washington football team in its 56-19 victory over Boise State this past Saturday.

Tuputala is a starting linebacker for the Dawgs as a junior.

The Mariners play the Wild Card leading Rays at 3:40 p.m. Thursday and Friday ahead of a 1:05 p.m. Saturday contest.  The two teams go at it again at 10:10 a.m. Sunday.

Washington hopes to build on its No. 8 national ranking and 1-0 record when it hosts Tulsa at 2 p.m. Saturday.

Thomas Jefferson gets a 1 p.m. Saturday visit from crosstown rival Decatur at Auburn Memorial.

Decatur's Gators are coming off an impressive 48-7 victory over Kentlake in last Thursday's opener while the Raiders were edged at Capital, 21-18.

Todd Beamer, meanwhile, goes south to the Vancouver area to take on Battle Ground at noon Saturday as Federal Way heads over the Cascade Mountains to play West Valley of Yakima at 1 p.m.

Beamer was outscored at Interlake, 41-26, in its opener Friday as Federal Way fell at Eastlake, 40-6.

Girls soccer

Federal Way hosts Auburn for a 4:30 p.m. match on its practice field Thursday as Decatur goes to Kentlake and Thomas Jefferson to Tahoma at 7:30 p.m.

Todd Beamer will be at home facing Kennedy Catholic at 5 p.m.

The Titans entertain Kentwood at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday as Decatur hosts Auburn-Riverside, with Thomas Jefferson hosting Kennedy Catholic and Federal Way going to Kent-Meridian at 7:30 p.m.

Federal Way hosts Todd Beamer for a 7:15 p.m. Thursday match and Decatur entertains Thomas Jefferson at the same time.

Decatur hosts Kent-Meridian at the same time Monday as Federal Way gets a visit from Auburn Mountainview, TJ a visit from Kentridge and Todd Beamer a trip to Kentwood.

TJ entertains Auburn and Decatur hosts Tahoma at the same time Wednesday as Federal Way travels to Burien to play Kennedy Catholic.

Thomas Jefferson opens with a home meet against Auburn-Riverside Wednesday as Todd Beamer races Auburn at Game Farm Park and Federal Way visits Mount Rainier in Des Moines.
