Baseball

Decatur 8, Kelso 1

Decatur apparently wasn't about to pass on a second chance to go to state Saturday, blasting Kelso in a District 3/4 Class 3A playoff at Auburn-Riverside High School.

The Gators go on to the regional level of state next Saturday while the Highlanders of Southwest Washington went home for the year.

Decatur travels to Sherman Anderson in Mount Vernon for a 1 p.m. regional opener against North Thurston.  The winner plays a 4 p.m. game for a state semifinal berth and the loser is out.

The Gators come in as the No. 8 state seed and the Rams of Lacey as the No. 9 state seed.

Enumclaw 7, Decatur 6

Decatur missed a chance to qualify early Saturday, losing a close one to the Hornets.

That game was also played at Auburn-Riverside.
