Baseball
Federal Way High School stands on the brink of making state following its home 3-1 victory over Kentridge on Wednesday.
The Eagles now have two chances to win one game to qualify for next weekend's state Class 4A regional action.
The first chance comes at 10 a.m. Saturday when they are pitted against Rogers of Puyallup in a District 3/4 game to be played at Heritage Field next to the opponent's school on the South Hill.
A win there would give Federal Way a direct berth to state, while a loss would leave it with a second chance in Saturday's 4 p.m. game at the same site.
The 4 p.m. opposition would be the loser of Saturday's 1 p.m. winner to state game between Kennedy Catholic and Camas.
Boys soccer
Federal Way also finds itself in a two chances to win one game and make state situation in boys soccer.
The Eagles meet Sumner for a 7:30 p.m. Thursday District 3/4 match at Art Crate Field next to Bethel High School in Graham.
The winner qualifies for state Class 4A opening action next Tuesday or Wednesday, while the loser gets another shot at 3 p.m. Saturday at Franklin Pierce Stadium in Parkland against Union or Olympia.
Fastpitch softball
Thomas Jefferson is set to open District 3/4 Class 3A tournament action next Thursday at the Regional Athletic Complex in Lacey with the tournament's second day being Saturday, May 20.
Decatur will be involved in the District 3/4 Class 4A action next Friday and Saturday at the Kent Service Fields.
First the Gators will pay a 4 p.m. Tuesday visit to Bonney Lake for a non-league tuneup.
Track and field
North Puget Sound League meet action concludes with a 2 p.m. Friday session at French Field in Kent located next to Kent-Meridian High School.
Tennis
The Boeing Employee Tennis Center in Kent will host the Class 4A District 3/4 tournament next Wednesday and Thursday as well as the Class 3A District 3/4 tournament next Friday and Saturday.
Pros
Mariners
Seattle opens a three game series in Detroit with a 3:40 p.m. contest Friday to be followed by 10:10 a.m. Saturday and 10:40 a.m. Sunday action.
The Mariners go on to Fenway Park in Boston to battle the Red Sox at 4:30 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
All of the action can be seen on ROOT Sports Northwest cable television.
Kraken
Game six of Seattle's best of seven series against the Dallas Stars takes place back home at the Climate Pledge Arena starting at 4 p.m. Saturday.
If a seventh game is necessary it will be in Dallas Monday at a time to be announced.
ESPN cable television is down to broadcast both.
Sounders
Seattle visits Houston for 5:30 p.m. Saturday men's soccer action before coming home to take on Austin at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Lumen Field.
Both matches can be seen on Apple TV+.
OL Reign
The Seattle based women's soccer team visits North Carolina for a noon Saturday match to be carried on Fox 13+.
Seawolves
Seattle's rugby squad visits Houston for 5 p.m. Saturday action on ROOT Sports Northwest.
Thunderbirds
Seattle enters Western Hockey League championship series action this weekend, playing Winnipeg in road games at 5 p.m. Friday and 4 p.m. Saturday.
The series comes home to the Showare Center in Kent for 7:05 p.m. clashes Tuesday and Wednesday.
Rainiers
Tacoma is at home at Cheney Stadium for Pacific Coast League baseball games at 7:05 p.m. Friday, 6:05 p.m. Saturday and 1:35 p.m. Sunday.
Emerald Downs
Auburn's horse racing track opens for action at 2 p.m. this Saturday and Sunday.
Colleges
Husky baseball
Washington plays at Oregon at 7 p.m. Friday, 6 p.m. Saturday and noon Sunday on Pac-12WA.
Husky fastpitch softball
Washington is competing this weekend in the Pac-12 tournament in Tucson, Ariz.
The Huskies opened with a 1-0 quarterfinal victory over Oregon State Thursday afternoon.
They advance to play Utah in a 4:30 p.m. Friday semifinal to be shown on ESPNU, with the winner playing for the title at 7 p.m. Saturday on ESPN2.
