Todd Beamer opened its season with a home game against Kentwood on Saturday night, taking a nine-point loss to the Conquerors.

Girls basketball

Neah Bay 63, TJ 49

Thomas Jefferson met the team from the far west end of the northern Olympic Peninsula this past Friday at Auburn-Riverside and came up short on the scoreboard.

TJ 37, Franklin Pierce 24

The Raiders bounced back to beat the host Cardinals in Parkland in a Saturday afternoon contest.

Decatur goes to Stadium of Tacoma for 7 p.m. action next Wednesday as Todd Beamer travels to Tahoma.

At 7 p.m. next Thursday it will be Enumclaw at Thomas Jefferson, Decatur at Auburn Mountainview and Federal Way at Kentlake.

Thomas Jefferson meets Neah Bay for a 6 p.m. Friday game at Auburn-Riverside and Federal Way hosts Gig Harbor at 10:30 a.m. Saturday.

Beamer's Nguyen makes state consols

Audrianna Nguyen of Todd Beamer earned her way into the consolation finals in two events at the state Class 3A girls swimming and diving meet that took place Saturday evening at the Weyerhauser King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way.

She splashed to a 13th place finish in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1 minute, 1.24 seconds and came in 16th in the 100 breaststroke in 1:14.42.

Amaya Johnson of Decatur took 12th place in diving with a score of 182.20 points through the semifinals, but the results of the Saturday finals for the top 16 have yet to be posted.

Teammate Amaya Simmons came in 24th with 91.35 points in the preliminaries and did not make the semifinals.

Thomas Jefferson's Fiona Policarpio finished 17th in the 100 fly with her preliminary time of 1:02.79 and 19th in the 200 individual medley with her preliminary time of 2:25.51.

Teammate Ang Ng took 20th in the 100 backstroke in 1:04.02 and the Raiders' foursome of Ng, Policarpio, Molly Burt and Izabella Poblete placed 22nd in 2:05.36.

Samantha Jolley of Federal Way finished 23rd in the 100 breast with a 1:19.32 clocking.

Decatur, Federal Way fall in two

It was a two and out story for both Decatur and Federal Way at the District 3 Class 3A volleyball tournament in Tacoma this week.

The Gators came in as the No. 12 tournament seed and opened against the No. 6 seeded Gig Harbor Tides Friday afternoon, taking a 3-0 loss.

That dumped them into a Saturday morning loser-out match that they lost to No. 9 seeded Lincoln of Tacoma, 3-0.

Federal Way entered as the No. 12 seed right behind the Gators and opened against No.  5 Timberline, also on Friday afternoon.

The Eagles took a 3-0 loss to fall into a Saturday morning loser-out affair against No. 10 seeded Silas.

Federal Way came up short in that one, 3-1.

Eagle girls finish 14th at state

Federal Way came through with a 14th place team finish in state Class 3A girls cross country action that took place Saturday at the Sun Willows Golf Course in Pasco.

The Eagles posted a score of 331 points, led by the third place individual finish of Abigail Collier in a time of 18 minutes, 24.40 seconds.

Federal Way teammate Maya Wentworth took 33rd in 19:42.80 with Jimena Zapada 53rd in 20:22.00.

Norah Johnson of the Eagles crossed 134th in 22:28.40 with Amy Leal 180th in 22:42.80 and Versabeh Bekele 188th in 24:02.60.

Sydney Wells of Todd Beamer took 50th as an individual in that race in a time of 20:04.50.

Sophia Delgado of Thomas Jefferson crossed 101st in 20:46.10 with teammate Sasha Delgado 153rd in 21:52.30.

The top area boys finish belonged to Austin Messer of Todd Beamer, who took 49th place in 16:30.20.

King Jackson of Federal Way came in 78th in 16:50.70 and TJ's Caden Barclay took 159th in 17:55.10.

Federal Way's Bryan Barrera-Dieguez was 172nd in 18:08.00 with teammate Alex Thach 178th in 18:17.00.

A Look Ahead

Volleyball

Decatur and Federal Way will both be playing in the District 3 tournament in Tacoma.

The Gators open with a 5 p.m. match against Gig Harbor in the Silas gymnasium and the Eagles will take on Timberline at the same at Mount Tahoma.

Both teams will play at least one more match no matter the outcome.

Girls swimming

The King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way will be the site of all state swimming and diving action this Friday and Saturday.

Class 4A preliminaries in both competitions starts at 9 a.m. Friday, followed by Class 1A/2A at 1:30 p.m. and the Class 3A action involving Federal Way School District athletes at 6:15 p.m.

The Class 4A finals begin at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, with the 1A/2A at 1:45 p.m. and the 3A at 7 p.m.

Pros

The high-flying Seattle Seahawks travel to Los Angeles to take on the Rams at 1:05 p.m. Sunday.

The two teams are tied for first place in the NFC West with 7-2 records.

Kraken

Seattle hosts the Winnipeg Jets for a 5 p.m. Thursday game at the Climate Pledge Arena and the San Jose Sharks visit at 7 p.m. Saturday.

The Kraken visit the Detroit Red Wings at 4 p.m. Tuesday and the Chicago Blackhawks at 5 p.m. Thursday.

Washington pays a visit to Utah at 6 p.m. Saturday and hosts Fresno State at the same time Wednesday.

Federal Way fell in a close, low-scoring Class 3A playoff game played Friday night in Kelso.

The Eagles finished with a 6-3 overall record.

Lakes 49, Decatur 7

Decatur also saw Class 3A playoff action Friday and came up short against Lakes in a road game at Harry Lang Stadium in Lakewood.

The Gators wound up at 5-4 overall.

Kentridge 28, TJ 27

Thomas Jefferson was edged out by one point in a non-playoff crossover played Thursday at French Field in Kent.

Girls soccer

Silas 1, TJ 0

Thomas Jefferson went down to a shutout loss in a playoff match Saturday in Tacoma.

TJ 2, Decatur 1

The Raiders downed the Gators in a Thursday playoff.

White River 3, TJ 1

Thomas Jefferson was topped by the Hornets in Tuesday playoff action.

Federal Way put away the Raiders in three sets Thursday.

A Look Ahead

Decatur and Federal Way both plunge into playoff action Friday with 7 p.m. starts.

The Gators go to Harry Lang Stadium in Lakewood to take on the Lakes Lancers while Federal Way has to travel all the way to Kelso for its game.

Both games are Class 3A multi-district affairs with the winners going on to state and the losers being finished for the year.

Thomas Jefferson, meanwhile, faces a 6 p.m. Thursday non-playoff crossover game against Kentridge at French Field in Kent.

Seattle comes home to Lumen Field to go up against the Arizona Cardinals at 1:05 p.m. Sunday.

Sounders

Seattle puts its season on the line in a 1 p.m. Saturday playoff in Minnesota.

It will be the third and deciding match of the Sounders' best two of three opening round series against the Loons.

The Seattle hockey team travels to St. Louis to battle the Blues at 4 p.m. Saturday before dropping in on the Dallas Stars at the same time Sunday.
