National makes softball final

It was an anticlimactic ending to an impressive District 10 Little League age 9-11 all-star softball tournament run for Federal Way National.

National battled back through the loser's bracket to reach Thursday's championship play, only to run up against Bonney Lake/Sumner and take a 19-2 loss.

Federal Way finished with a 3-2 tournament record.

National opened the tournament with a 9-4 win over Chinook, before getting outslugged, 12-7, by South Hill.

Federal Way rebounded for a 12-2 victory over Chinook ahead of an 8-7 Wednesday win over South Hill in the loser's bracket final 

That sent the team on to Thursday's championship play.

9-11 baseball

Federal Way National made it as far as the loser's bracket final before taking a 10-8 loss to South Hill to finish third.

National slammed Kent, 17-0, to open before being edged, 4-2, by Bonney Lake/Sumner.

Federal Way followed that with a 13-0 victory over Soundview ahead of a 14-4 win over Auburn on Tuesday.

That set up Wednesday's loser's bracket final against South Hill.

Junior baseball

Federal Way had only a two game stay in the age 13 district tournament.

National absorbed an 11-0 loss to Chinook to open before bowing out with a 17-2 defeat at the hands of Bonney Lake/Sumner.

Little League

Federal Way National meets Bonney Lake/Sumner for a noon Saturday showdown at Sunset Park in Auburn.

The action opens District 10 Majors age 10-12 all-star play.

The winner returns at 9 a.m. Sunday, with Sunday's winner making the 6 p.m. Tuesday winner's bracket final.

The loser's bracket final is at 6 p.m. Wednesday with the championship at 10 a.m. Thursday.

Senior Little League

Defending state champion Federal Way National launches out into District 10 tournament play at 6 p.m. Monday at its own complex.

National is taking on South Hill in a two team tournament, with the teams meeting again at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

If the teams split the first two games, a third deciding clash takes place at 6 p.m. next Wednesday.

Softball

Little League

Federal Way National opens state Majors age 10-12 all-star play at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Hartman Park in Redmond.

Mariners

Seattle plays a 9:10 a.m. Wednesday game at Tampa Bay before coming home to T-Mobile Park for three against the Minnesota Twins this weekend.

Action starts at 6:40 p.m. Friday, 7:10 p.m. Saturday and 1:10 p.m. Sunday.

The Baltimore Orioles come to town at 6:40 p.m. Tuesday.

ROOT Sports Northwest will televise the games live.

Seattle entertains Chicago for a 7:30 p.m. Saturday match at Lumen Field on Apple TV+.

Indiana visits Seattle at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Climate Pledge Arena and Dallas flies in to play at 6 p.m. Saturday and 7 p.m. Monday.

Tacoma is at Sugar Land playing 5:05 p.m. games Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday and a 4:05 p.m. contest Sunday.

The Rainiers host the Salt Lake Bees at 7:05 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at Cheney Stadium.

Aquasox

Everett entertains the Spokane Indians at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday, 12:05 p.m. Thursday and 7:05 p.m. Friday and Saturday ahead of a 4:05 p.m. Sunday game.

The Aquasox visit Vancouver at 1:05 p.m. Monday and 7:05 p.m. Tuesday.

Emerald Downs

The Auburn oval opens for horse racing at 7 p.m. Friday and 1:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

District stays cut short

Three local teams had their stays cut short in District 10 Little League baseball and softball tournament action held at the Federal Way National complex.

Two posted 1-2 records and the other bowed out in two games.

Steel Lake opened the age 8-10 baseball tournament with an 11-10 win over Auburn Sunday before losing to Chinook Monday, 16-1, and to South Hill Tuesday, 11-1.

Federal Way National took a 14-3 loss to Auburn to open the same tournament Saturday and lost, 8-5, to Kent Sunday.

National also fielded a girls softball team in the same age group.

It defeated Auburn to open Saturday, 20-5.

But National fell to Chinook Sunday, 21-2, and to Soundview Tuesday, 15-11.

Three more teams open tournaments at National this Saturday.

The Junior age 13 baseball squad for National plays the winner of a Thursday game between Kent/Auburn and Chinook at 9 a.m.

The winner goes straight to the 6 p.m. Monday winner's final.

In the age 9-11 baseball division it will be National vs. Kent at 9 a.m. Saturday with the winner meeting Bonney Lake/Sumner at 9 a.m. Sunday.

In age 9-11 girls softball National opens against Chinook at 3 p.m. Saturday.  The winner plays South Hill at 9 a.m. Sunday.

National wins tournament

Federal Way National wrapped up the District 10 age 10-12 Little League girls softball all-star championship with a 9-4 victory over South Hill on Friday.

National will ride the win at the Sunset complex in Auburn to a state tournament appearance starting Monday, July 1 in Redmond.

National opened the District 10 tournament with a 7-4 win over Fife/Milton/Edgewood last Monday and defeated Soundview by a 6-2 score later that evening.

Federal Way beat South Hill in Wednesday's winner's bracket final, 10-6, to advance to Friday's championship action.

National in command

Federal Way National hopped into the driver's seat at the District 10 age 10-12 Little League girls softball all-star tournament, winning its first three games.

National plays Thursday's loser's bracket final winner for the championship at 5 p.m. Friday at the Sunset complex in Auburn.

A loss there would still leave National with a second chance at 7 p.m., but it hopes to avoid needing that.

National took control of the tournament with a 10-6 win over South Hill in Wednesday's winner's bracket final played at Sunset.

Federal Way opened the tournament by posting a 7-4 win over Fife/Milton/Edgewood on Monday.

National advanced to play Soundview later that evening and won, 6-2, to reach Wednesday's game.

Juniors

Federal Way National was eliminated from the District 10 Junior age 13 softball tournament with a 12-3 loser's bracket final loss to Chinook/Bonney Lake/Kent on Wednesday.

National was seeded directly into Tuesday's winner's bracket final but lost it to South Hill, 23-6.

Federal Way National journeys to Auburn's Sunset complex to play South Hill at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the winner's bracket final of the Majors age 10-12 District 10 all-star tournament.

The winner advances to play for the championship at 5 p.m. Friday and the loser drops into a 6 p.m. Thursday loser's bracket final.

The if necessary final would be at 7 p.m. Friday.

The National Juniors find themselves in a 6 p.m. Wednesday loser's bracket final at home against Chinook/Bonney Lake/Kent.  The winner plays South Hill at 6 p.m. Thursday at Sunset needing a win to reach Friday's 6 p.m. if necessary championship.

Age 8-10 tournament action opens Saturday with Federal Way National hosting Auburn at noon.

The winner plays Chinook at noon Sunday.

The winner's bracket final is at 6 p.m. next Wednesday with the loser's bracket final at 6 p.m. Thursday.

Provisional championship play starts at 6 p.m. next Friday with the if necessary game at 9 a.m. Saturday.

Sunday's winner plays a winner's bracket semifinal at 6 p.m. Monday with Monday's winner in Wednesday's 6 p.m. winner's bracket final.

The loser's bracket final is at 6 p.m. Thursday, the provisional championship at 6 p.m. Friday and the if necessary game at 9 a.m. Saturday.

Seattle hosts the Chicago White Sox for 6:40 p.m. value games Wednesday and Thursday at T-Mobile Park, with tickets available for as little as $10.

The Texas Rangers come to town for a big series this weekend with action at 7:10 p.m. Friday, 4:15 p.m. Saturday and 1:10 p.m. Sunday.

The Mariners have Monday off to fly to Cleveland, where they will play the Guardians at 3:40 p.m. Tuesday.

Keeping Track

McDaniels helps Minnesota

Federal Way High School graduate Jayden McDaniels and the Minnesota Timberwolves fought their way into the National Basketball Association's Western Conference finals before losing to the Dallas Mavericks in five games.

McDaniels spoke to the media following their 105-100 win in Dallas on May 26.

"We're on a mission together and don't want that mission to end," said McDaniels, who scored 10 points and hauled down one rebound in the game.

McDaniels pointed out that friends and family made the trip to attend.

"I just want to thank them for supporting me," he said.

McDaniels hit 24 points with four rebounds and three assists in game one for his best outing of the series.

Junk sent down to Sounds

Decatur graduate Janson Junk is back with the AAA Nashville Sounds after pitching three games for the parent Milwaukee Brewers.

Junk earned the win for the Sounds in a 10-3 victory over Louisville this Thursday to improve his season record with the team to 3-3 with a 3.75 earned run average.

He was 0-0, 9.00 over five innings with Milwaukee.

Brigham back after injury

Thomas Jefferson graduate Jeff Brigham is active for the AAA St. Paul Saints of the Minnesota Twins organization after starting off the season on the injured list.

Brigham has now appeared in five games,  going 0-0, 6.75 with four strikeouts in 5.1 innings.

Hymer has a solid season

Decatur graduate Mason Hymer just finished a strong junior season for Morningside University of Sioux City, Iowa.

Hymer went 3-4, 2.15 with two saves for the Mustangs with 29 strikeouts in 29.1 innings.

Bolam earns SPSL first team

Preston Bolam, the son of TJ graduate Marc Bolam, earned his way onto the South Puget Sound League's first team as a freshman at Emerald Ridge High School.

Bolam landed one of the outfield positions.

Federal Way National will be playing at its own complex in Majors age 10-12 action to open, battling the Fife/Milton/Edgewood team at 5 p.m.

The winner plays Soundview at 7 p.m.

The 7 p.m. winner makes the winner's bracket final scheduled for 6 p.m. Wednesday at Sunset Park in Auburn.

The loser's final is Thursday at the same time and place.  The first championship is 5 p.m. Friday at Sunset with the if-necessary second final at 7 p.m.

The National Juniors age 13 team enters in the winner's final at 6 p.m. Tuesday at National against a foe to be determined.

The loser returns at 6 p.m. Wednesday for the loser's final.
