Federal Way battles back to take second place

 By Tim Clinton

Federal Way National battled all the way back through the loser's bracket to capture second place in the District 10 Major Softball All-Star Tournament that concluded Thursday at Sunset Park in Auburn.

The age 10-12 National girls took a narrow 5-4 loss to Auburn to open the tournament Saturday, but began the long road back by outslugging Bonney Lake/Sumner, 16-7, Sunday.

Federal Way pounded Chinook by a 6-1 score Monday, then avenged the Auburn loss by topping that team on Tuesday, 10-7.

That put National into Wednesday's loser's bracket final, which it won handily by a 9-1 margin over Fife/Milton/Edgewood.

The Federal Way charter that combines the old National and Federal Way American charters advanced to Thursday's provisional championship, which it lost to South Hill of Puyallup, 8-1.

Soundview of Northeast Tacoma and Steel Lake of the east side of the Federal Way School District fielded a combined team in the tournament as well.

It was edged, 3-2, by Chinook to open Saturday before falling, 3-1, to Auburn.

National was managed by Gary Haven and the players were Mya Aguillar, Lolah Camarillo-Kontos, Sydney Crawford, Naiya Fesili, Charlotte Figgins, Emma Foster, Riley Hay, Caroline Ly, Lillia Marcotte, Isabella Munoz, Ava Quiroz and Eila Rogers.
