Two wrestlers snag second

Caleb Clemens of Todd Beamer and Marina Velasco-Bono of Federal Way both snagged second place state finishes in Mat Classic wrestling action at the Tacoma Dome this past weekend.

Clemens reached the boys Class 3A 120-pound weight class championship and lost by a 17-2 technical fall and Velasco-Bono made the girls 3A 130-pound final and took a 15-8 loss.

Yarely Cervantes of Federal Way finished fourth in girls 110-pound action, losing the third place match, 5-0.

Teammate Lola James won the 115-pound match for fifth place by fall in 1 minute, 52 seconds.

Finishing sixth with fifth place match losses from Federal Way were Faye Imoesiri at 170 pounds by a 12-6 score and Lamia 'Sky Misher at 235 pounds by forfeit.

Jayden Walker of Decatur won the 175-pound boys match for seventh and eighth place, 21-8, and Thomas Jefferson's Caden Brian Barclay lost his at 132 pounds, 2-1.

Tucker, Miller snag sixth at state

Dean Tucker of Decatur and Drew Miller of Federal Way highlighted the area performances in the state Class 3A boys swimming and diving meet held this past weekend at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way.

Tucker took sixth place in the 100-yard breaststroke in 58.91 seconds and 10th in the 200 individual medley in 1:59.05.

Miller took sixth place in the 100 backstroke in a time of 53.06 seconds and 17th in the 100 butterfly in 53.57.

Thomas Jefferson's Max Kahn placed ninth the 50 freestyle in 21.80 and 19th in the 100 free in 49.65.

Decatur's Alex Mingalindan placed 17th in the 500 free in 5:05.45 and 20th in the 200 free in 1:51.06.

Alex Nguyen of TJ came in 23rd in the 100 back in 59.53.

Decatur took 16th in the 200 medley relay in 1:46.60 with TJ 19th in 1:46.37.

The Gators were 20th in the 400 free relay in 3:33.45 with TJ 22nd in the 200 free relay in 1:37.02.



Cabang captures first in beam

Rylee Cabang of Thomas Jefferson captured first place in the balance beam at this past weekend's state Class 3A gymnastics competition that took place at Sammamish High School.

Cabang came through with a score of 9.450.

She also took second place in the all-around with a total of 76.600 points, helping the Raiders take seventh as a team with a 149.625 score.

Decatur finished eighth at 148.00 points with Todd Beamer 15th at 66.100 and Federal Way 34th at 31.150.

Cabang also snagged second in the bars with a 9.400.

Decatur's Anyah Johnson took 12th place in the beam with an 8.800 and Myla Felizardo of Todd Beamer tied for eighth in the floor exercise with a 9.175 and placed 14th in the beam with an 8.725.

Felizardo took 13th in the all-around at 34.800 with Johnson 33rd at 33.200.  TJ's Nakiya Rankin placed 46th with a 30.750 with Jaliva Jones of Decatur 48th at 30.675.

The Kraken go on to St. Louis to battle the Blues at the same time Thursday.

Seattle returns to the Climate Pledge Arena to take on the Vancouver Canucks at 7 p.m. Saturday and the Carolina Hurricanes at the same time Monday.

St. Louis comes to town at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Seattle visits Salt Lake at 4:30 p.m. Saturday.

Seattle hosts the Chicago White Sox for 12:10 p.m. Tuesday spring training action in Arizona before visiting the Kansas City Royals at 12:05 p.m. Wednesday and hosting the Cleveland Guardians at 12:10 p.m. Thursday.

Arizona's Diamondbacks visit at 5:10 p.m. Friday, the Mariners drop in on the San Diego Padres at 12:10 p.m. Saturday and host the Texas Rangers at 12:10 p.m. Sunday.
